State Deputy General Counsel and Compliance Director The candidate will be responsible for identifying, mitigating and managing legal strategies to protect and advance the mission and business of company. The SDGC provides support and advice to ensure compliance with all applicable local, state and federal laws. Under the direction of the Regional Deputy General Counsel (RDGC) collaborates with Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) legal and/or outside counsel, interprets statutes and administrative rules applicable to company operations, with a special emphasis in public affairs and employment law. Provides support and advice to company and its ancillary organizations. Serves on the company Executive Leadership Team. Under the supervision of the RDGC, the SDGC also has a dotted reporting line to company s Board of Directors. Provide advice on legal and regulatory matters relating to business activities and on compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Conduct or direct research and provide interpretation of laws relating to organizational activities and mission. Draft and review contracts with a view to minimizing legal and financial exposure for the organization and while ensuring regulatory compliance. Ensure the maintenance of a document storage, retrieval and management system. Support and advance the central system which includes contracts, leases, policies/procedures, and corporate documents. Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures. Provide employment law counsel, as needed. Direct or oversee investigations surfaced within the organization. In consultation with the RDGC, serve as a liaison between local staff members and Executive Leadership in accordance with the whistle-blower policy and organizational Code of Integrity. Provide support and advice to public policy staff as requested. Work to ensure compliance with all laws and regulations relating to work of the 501(c)(4) entities and support and oversee the practices required to ensure the 501(c)(4) activities' separation from the 501(c)(3) activities. Assist in development and/or revision of policies and procedures for the organization. Coordinate legal activities with PPFA and outside legal counsel, as directed. Implement legal and compliance workplans and manage administrative duties, as needed and requested. Participate in leadership meetings, as needed and provide education and training to staff, as requested. Operate at the highest ethical level, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations and reporting requirements. Ensure proper representation for PPHeartland, in the event the RDGC is unable to advise on a specific matter.

The candidate should have Law Degree and is licensed to practice law in the state of Iowa. Eligibility for registration as in-house counsel in Nebraska is required. Should have 5 years experience in the practice of law Experience in both employment law and public affairs/C (4) rules and regulations required.
