Assistant General Counsel, Employment The candidate will manage the defense of employment litigation, arbitration, and EEO claims. Will provide advice, training, and counsel to internal business partners, including Human Resources, Loss Prevention and Store Operations, on a variety of compliance issues. Regular travel throughout the continental U.S. is required. Manage employment litigation for firm. Select and actively monitor outside counsel to ensure effective case handling, with an emphasis on efficiency and cost consciousness. Attend key depositions, hearings, and trials. Conduct and/or manage employment arbitrations and represent firm in a variety of legal settings. Oversee (and as necessary prepare) responses to federal and state EEO, DOL and other agency charges and complaints. Provide advice and counsel to business partners, particularly in Human Resources, Loss Prevention, Store Operations, and Logistics. Draft employment-related policies and procedures. Identify employment-related risks to the business and ensure compliance with employment-related laws and regulations. Stay abreast of legal trends and communicate proactively to internal partners and clients. Represent the company at trials, hearings, investigations, mediations, and settlement conferences. Oversee (and as necessary prepare) the response to notices, subpoenas, summons, demand letters, and other correspondence that require legal action in the employment and human resource arena.

The candidate should have a JD degree from accredited law school. Must have 15 years of experience in employment law. Strong oral and written communication skills and analytical ability essential. License to practice law is needed. Experience working with Fortune 500 companies a plus. Experience drafting handbooks and corporate policies essential.
