Lead Counsel and Director of Contracts

Lead Counsel and Director of Contracts The candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures, strategies, and cost-saving programs that will support maintaining, renewing, and securing contracts. Will be responsible for the establishment and maintenance of an effective contracting process. Plan and execute pre-proposals and post award contract activities to ensure successful contract processing, implementation, and administration. Establish policy and procedures, methodologies and strategies for the contract management functions in line with company objectives. Manage and negotiate contracts in conjunction with senior management for corporate agreements with GPOs, IDNs, distributors, vendors, government agencies and other corporate contracts as they arise. Develop a strong understanding of the business in order to properly support internal customers and protect/mitigate business risks during contract negotiation. Establish a process to communication contract compliance obligations to respective business owners. Manage contract administration reporting system. Provide contract evaluation to senior management. Assist in long range department planning and development to support company objectives. Manage, recruit, train, and evaluate contract administration staff and attorneys. Plan and develop department processes/procedures to improve department efficiency. Some travel may be required.

The candidate should have a Juris Doctor Degree from top accredited law school. Must be an active member in good standing of the State Bar of Illinois or Wisconsin. Should have 7-10 years of experience in medical industry with a focus on contracts, negotiation, and administration. Proven negotiating skills for contract solicitation and with the ability to identify contractual language requiring consideration and able to effectively work with legal counsel during the solicitation process needed. Experience and proficiency with all aspects of contract compliance essential. Extensive knowledge of the medical industry supply chain cycle and business practices needed. Knowledge and experience with government contracting a plus. Experience negotiating with healthcare focused group purchasing organizations essential. Excellent written and verbal communication skills needed. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and effective utilization of contract management software.
