Corporate Claims Attorney - No-Fault/PIP The candidate will be responsible (in conjunction with Progressive Michigan Claims Management) for the development and implementation of the overall PIP litigation strategy for the State. Responsible for the selection, evaluation and retention of qualified Defense Counsel to handle PIP litigation matters, complex or otherwise, throughout the state. Serve as primary point of contact and coordinator for Defense Counsel throughout the State on general PIP litigation matters. Advise and consult with Medical Claims Management regarding appropriate legal strategies to be employed in PIP litigation matters. Review documents, affidavits and other legal memoranda associated with PIP litigation matters to insure appropriateness, sufficiency and consistency throughout the State. Assist in the negotiation of settlements and other agreements on behalf of Progressive on PIP related issues, when requested. Assist in the development and implementation of appropriate training for Medical Claims Reps on litigation related issues, as may be needed. Conduct Legal Research on PIP related matters, as may be needed. Serve as a liaison, when requested, on behalf of Progressive Claims Management in meetings with attorneys, medical providers, vendors and others, as may be necessary to further Progressives overall PIP agenda. Attend PIP-related community and industry activities as a representative of Progressive. A Juris Doctorate required. Must be member in good standing to the bar of at least 1 state. Should have 6+ years of legal experience including complex civil litigation experience or related corporate experience. Must have ability to perform a coverage analysis in whatever jurisdiction an issue arises. 5 years of Michigan personal injury protection (PIP) Insurance litigation experience is desired. Ability to be precise about identifying possible outcomes and assessing the probability of any of those outcomes occurring is preferred. Sound understanding of the litigation process and the ability to create effective, detailed and comprehensive legal strategies is desired. Excellent communication and negotiation skills are preferred.
