Counsel - Private Banking The candidate will handle all legal matters for the Private Banking line of business, including, the review and negotiation of all types of agreements impacting the private wealth management business and trust company business and advising the business on all legal aspects of the private wealth management business and trust company business, and proactively track relevant legal and regulatory developments. Will be expected to handle more complicated legal issues and escalate issues whenever appropriate. Work closely and coordinate on various matters with colleagues in the Compliance and Risk groups. Provide legal and regulatory advice to private wealth managements senior management and staff relating to business practices, products, operations and services. Advise private wealth managements senior management in the development of new products and services, and support and advise on long-term strategic business initiatives. Manage outside counsel engagements. Proactively track relevant legal and regulatory developments. Assist in the drafting of agreements, forms, client communications and memoranda required for the private wealth management group. Review and negotiate of all types of agreements impacting the private wealth management business, including ancillary private wealth management services such as custody services, consolidated asset reporting services, check writing services, bill payment services, funds transfer services, etc. Conduct legal research. Represent BBH on legally-oriented trade association committees. Provide guidance to designated Trust Officers/Administrators Review openings and closings of trust-related accounts, as appropriate, and prepare necessary documentation such as releases. Address beneficiaries questions. Review exercises of discretion, including principal income and distributions of income. Must be a graduate from an accredited Law School and 8 - 10 years of experience, at least 3 of those years being relevant in-house legal experience advising a large institution on wealth management business. Must be a member of the NY Bar. Must have strong written and oral communication skills. Should have JD Degree.
