VP, Litigation Attorney The candidate will be responsible for managing a caseload of mortgage-related litigation matters. Manage a diverse caseload and oversee mortgage-related litigation and contested foreclosure and defensive litigation matters. Engage and supervise outside counsel. Provide legal advice and advise business unit(s) on various matters (assist as counsel and serve as a general resource to the Law Department). Collaborate with, and provide legal advice and on-going support to in-house litigation team/counsel. Review settlement offers/settlement agreements. Review legal arguments and provide comments/edits on various pleadings. Review litigation matters and determine strategy for legal issues. Identify issues and escalate them within the Law Department as needed. Review and analyze pleadings to determine risk. Review and manage legal spend on litigation matters; monitor and review budgets. Review invoices and ensure compliance with billing guidelines. Mitigate legal risk and minimize associated costs. Determine whether settlement or pursuing litigation is the most efficient strategy. Work well with numbers to calculate timeframes and evaluate costs and losses for reserve.

The candidate should have JD degree from an accredited law school in the United States. Must have 5-7 years of litigation experience through all phases (discovery, dispositive motions, trials/hearings). Experience as both outside counsel and in-house counsel preferred. Knowledge of the mortgage lending industry and the foreclosure process required. Knowledgeable of applicable state and federal laws and regulations relating to mortgage servicing. Mortgage servicing experience preferred. Background in commercial collection work also preferred. Advanced organizational and multitasking skills essential. Ability to analyze complex issues, develop creative solutions, and provide sound, pragmatic legal advice to business clients. Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
