Corporate Counsel The candidate will provide comprehensive legal counsel and legal risk analysis for Summit s business operations and initiatives. Provide day-to-day legal counsel to company stakeholders on general corporate and compliance matters. Contract negotiation and drafting. Build close cross-functional relationships with team members, and obtain and maintain a solid knowledge of the company s business. Collaborating with internal clients and providing regular and timely updates. Provide legal advice on a wide variety of disputed matters. Any other duties assigned by the Chief Legal Officer or their designee.
The candidate should have J.D. from accredited law school. Must be licensed to practice law and in good standing in Maine. Must have 3-5 years of experience in a law firm or corporate setting, with solid contract drafting experience. Experience with real estate law and utility regulation is helpful. Must demonstrate a business-friendly approach to legal problem solving and be able to effectively counsel internal clients by providing them with clear and concise practical advice as well as creative solutions. Should have strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with all levels and to keep relevant stakeholders regularly and timely updated. Must possess a strong desire to learn the business and new areas of law and to function integrally as part of a geographically dispersed Legal Team. Must be able to quickly gain a rapport and working relationship with business personnel to encourage and continue the proactive use of in-house legal counsel. Should be able to communicate clearly and work effectively and cooperatively with colleagues from different functions, different offices, different regions, and at every level of the company ?s organization. Must have excellent judgment and initiative in developing creative and effective solutions, using a business-oriented approach. Must be proficient in setting priorities and managing expectations with respect to deliverables and deadlines.
