Employment Counsel The candidate will be responsible for all functions related to employment law for the company and its portfolio companies. Will develop company's employment law function and strategy from the ground-up and provide support on all employment law related matters for company and portfolio companies. Serve as a trusted advisor to portfolio companies and provide practical and business-oriented legal advice and counseling on a range of employment issues, including: performance management, employee relations, hiring, terminations, leaves of absence and accommodations, compensation, internal investigations, benefits, privacy, and general policy adherence. Develop, draft and implement a variety of workplace policies, employee training and employment-related templates and agreements in collaboration with the broader Legal Team, Human Resources Team, and other functions as appropriate. Draft employment agreements that support the entire employee lifecycle at company and portfolio companies, including: employment contracts and offer letters, confidentiality agreements, and separation agreements. Manage employment related litigation, including responding to attorney demand letters, effectively negotiating resolution of claims, and making recommendations to Human Resources and senior management on corrective action. Actively monitor employment law changes. Implement new policies and conduct trainings on any identified changes in employment laws. Assist with employment related diligence in connection with potential business acquisitions, and support post-acquisition integration activities for completed transactions. Keep abreast of legal decisions, statutory changes and other developments, and provide updates to company and portfolio companies. Regularly prepare training materials and conduct training sessions for company and portfolio companies regarding employment best practices and policy compliance. Work with outside counsel, as needed. Should have a J.D. degree. Should be admitted to a State Bar, preferably NY. Must have 10+ years of a mixture of relevant experience in a top-tier law firm, a corporate legal department and/or a private equity firm including 5+ years of experience as an in-house Employment Lawyer with a client-focus. Experience implementing compliance and ethics trainings preferred. Some travel may be required.
