Counsel, Real Estate Duties: Draft and negotiate both simple and complex retail leases and supporting documentation, including assistance in dispute resolution. Support efforts in supporting the internal Real Estate Department, Store Design, Property Development and Store Preservation Teams regarding all facets of commercial leasing. Operate through a lens of risk mitigation with respect to legal issues, commercial business terms, property administration and services while supporting business goals and imperatives. Focus on reducing time cycle for lease negotiation. Review existing leases to provide counsel on rights and obligations while also meeting critical timelines. Partner with deal makers, brokers, lawyers, consultants, landlords, Property Development, Accounting and Finance to expedite the deal process. Provide guidance, interpretation and development to a supporting team of paralegals and/or outside counsel. Qualifications: Law degree and top academic credentials from an ABA-accredited law school. California Bar membership in good standing or licensed to practice in at least one U.S. state. 5+ years of relevant experience, with either law firm and/or in-house experience. Law firm experience should include practicing as a transactional attorney in real estate, with a strong understanding in the areas of retail and commercial leasing, property management and landlord/tenant and other real estate disputes. Excellent interpersonal, analytical, communication, negotiating, drafting and problem-solving skills. Sound judgment with ability to balance legal risk and business impact. Ability to work well with a small, tightly-knit team, and the range to deal effectively with everyone from senior management to operations and store personnel. Ability and desire to seek responsibility and work autonomously. Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously with strong follow up. Retail and consumer products experience strongly preferred. Beauty industry experience a plus. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel. Experience and knowledge of SmartSheets Application is preferred.
