Attorney / Legal Counsel - Privacy The candidate will provide legal advice and counsel for a world-class, non-profit, academic medical center and affiliated health care system. The candidate will have in-depth knowledge of U.S. and European privacy and data protection law, and will advise on patient privacy regulatory compliance, data privacy and security matters, joining an existing team specializing in this area. The candidate will have substantive privacy experience, including experience providing transactional legal advice regarding privacy issues in health care, as well as an ability to compile and analyze regulatory and business information, assess risk strategically, and provide recommendations to help Mayo Clinic achieve its goals. Experience negotiating contracts with vendors, including data protection terms, is preferred. This Legal Counsel position will work collaboratively with sophisticated Risk, Compliance and Information Security Offices. This position will retain and manage outside counsel and lead and participate in teams. The candidate should have a minimum of five years of experience in a privacy and data security role. A strong academic background, as well as excellent communication and writing skills are required. The candidate must have the ability to manage multiple client relationships, with an understanding of and willingness to meet clients needs and business goals in a dynamic, team-based, multi-state, corporate legal department. Qualifications: Requires completion of law school. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of experience advising clients (healthcare preferred) on privacy matters as described. Candidates should have sound legal project management skills and the ability to effectively lead teams, serve as a positive change agent, and delegate work in a fast-paced, team-based environment within a dynamic organization. Requires a license to practice law in the state of residence.
