Privacy Counsel The candidate will be responsible for: Manage international and domestic privacy regulation compliance (e.g., CCPA, GDPR, HIPAA). Review and negotiate privacy and data protection related contracts. Manage vendor security assessments and DPAs. Advise internal business clients on privacy and data management issues. Work closely with our product and engineering teams to advise on privacy-by-design during development of new products and features. Draft and update privacy policies. Lead and take charge of special legal projects from start to finish. Remain up-to-date on relevant privacy data protection laws and regulations to ensure an ongoing ability to provide sound compliance advice, including conference/CLE attendance. Think ahead, see around corners, and help to prepare for legal issues that may arise in the future.
The candidate must have A J.D. from a top-tier law school and membership with at least one state bar (preferably California). Should have 5+ years of related experience working at a leading law firm or in-house legal department, with a minimum of 3 years of hands on privacy experience (in-house experience, especially at a tech company, CPG or retailer, is a plus). Must have strong working knowledge of domestic and international privacy and data protection laws, including CCPA, GDPR and HIPAA. Should have familiarity with privacy related legal issues affecting the Internet and e-commerce spaces. Must have experience drafting and negotiating privacy and data protection related contracts. A successful track record of managing complex projects and supervising teams required. CIPP Certification preferred.
