Litigation and Compliance Counsel The candidate will be responsible for managing outside counsel and coordinating with Risk Management to oversee all claims and litigation and provide guidance to internal business partners on defense strategy and settlement decisions. Reviewing settlement agreements, discovery, pleadings and related documents. Attending mediations, arbitrations and settlement conferences, as needed. Reporting claim status and settlement information to firm s Asset Management and Senior Executive teams. Drafting, managing and maintaining internal litigation management forms, training, tools and resources. Managing outside counsel and coordinating with Asset Management on landlord/tenant disputes, evictions, collections, condemnations and tenant bankruptcies. Establishing internal claims and litigation best practices. Assisting with other claims and litigation related duties, as required. Developing, implementing, documenting, and maintaining firm s compliance program. Assisting with the integration of firm s compliance program into its operations. Coordinating resources to ensure the ongoing effectiveness of the compliance program. Assisting with or presenting periodic reports on the operation of the compliance program to the Board of Directors and Senior Executive team. The candidate must have Juris Doctor from an ABA accredited law school and admission in good standing to a State Bar (California is preferred). 6-10 years of relevant claims and litigation experience (primary substantive areas include negligent care, wrongful death, premises liability and Fair Housing/ADA defense) is essential. Long-term care or equivalent healthcare-specific experience is desired. Compliance experience, with managed healthcare experience is a plus. Superior verbal and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills are needed.
