Senior Associate General Counsel - Global Compliance Lead The candidate will be responsible for assisting the CCO in implementing Gileads healthcare compliance program. Will be part of and help to administer the Compliance Leadership Team, in partnership with the EVP Corporate Affairs and General Counsel, VP, International Legal, VP of Litigation and Investigations, VP Internal Audit, and other members of the CLT. Will contribute to the oversight and management of the Legal Function globally including strategic decisions on Legal/compliance policies, practices and methods for ensuring risk mitigation is aligned with Gileads business strategy. He/she will lead a global compliance team consisting of Training and Communications, Monitoring, Transparency, Policies and International compliance, and will partner with IT to conceive and implement systems and solutions that facilitate the efficient and effective operation of the healthcare compliance program. Will be responsible for providing input into the elements of an effective compliance program, ensuring consistent and effective global operation of compliance training, communications, monitoring, transparency and policies. Will also consult on business activities and initiatives that pose compliance considerations, working closely with the legal and business conduct teams who provide primary support for relevant business functions including Commercial, Medical Affairs, Public Affairs, Government Affairs, Finance and Clinical. A key goal of this position is to drive global consistency in our compliance program, and ensure best practices are shared and adopted across geographies and functions. Fosters an energizing work environment where employees have impact on our patient-centric mission and can grow their careers. Enables robust development and succession planning within the healthcare compliance program. Inputs to talent management, strategic resourcing and succession processes. Responsible for alignment within the broader global legal organization to ensure the team partners effectively across all functions within firm. Connect other departments of Legal within the region (e.g. Data Privacy, Litigation & Investigations, Intellectual Property, Legal Operations).

The candidate should be an experienced healthcare compliance leader from the biotech and/or pharmaceutical industry with proven cultural adaptability across geographies. Ideally the successful candidate will have gained exposure to working within an organization with a US-based headquarters, as well as experience with operations in major markets worldwide. The candidate must have a strong background and exposure to healthcare laws across the globe, including anti-bribery/anti-corruption laws. Should have 14+ years of prior industry or law firm experience providing legal counsel relating to drugs, devices, or food products. Experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries. A Juris Doctorate or fully qualified legal credentials in one of more geographies of operations. Fully admitted to practice law in the respective country or jurisdiction. Extensive professional experience in-house in biotech and/or pharmaceuticals advising in all relevant areas of healthcare compliance. Ideally the majority of the years of career spent in-house. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Able to exercise judgement and propose courses of action where precedent may not exist. In-depth understanding of business objectives and how those translate into healthcare compliance priorities to deliver advice and guidance to the business. Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, an inquisitive mind, and the ability to work effectively in a global, matrixed organization with multiple functions, together with a positive attitude and strong work ethic. Experience with systems and structures that facilitate an efficient and effective compliance program. Experience, confidence, resilience and gravitas to work with senior Executives and able to establish rapport with key stakeholders and client. Ability to quickly establish credibility with diverse audiences and be perceived as an empowering leader yet be hands-on when necessary. Consistently retains a sense of the bigger picture, International and domestic travel.
