Director, Trade Compliance Counsel

Director, Trade Compliance Counsel Responsibilities: Provide effective legal counsel in the area of import, export and product regulatory compliance, including performing regulatory analysis and provide advice on product tariff classification, environmental green product claims, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory trade policies, laws and regulations. Build strong and effective relationships with cross-functional product teams in order to understand and address business needs related to imports/export and other market access requirements. Create and conduct training for cross-functional business partners related to product regulatory, market access and trade compliance. Assist in development and monitoring of trade compliance best practices and strategies, including duty savings and free trade optimization activities. Conduct internal risk assessment and supervise customs compliance audits and transaction testing.

Qualifications: JD Degree with 3+ years of law firm experience and membership in at least the NY or NJ state Bar. Experience in researching, evaluating and keeping abreast of geopolitical developments, and regulatory changes that affect retail products and compliance initiatives. Relevant experience in the apparel and fashion industry, preferred. Highly motivated with a strong work ethic and good interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability proficiency to draft, review, negotiate commercial agreements and vendor compliance documents. Ability to navigate relevant environmental and marketing laws and advise on sustainability issues and product claims substantiation. Very strong communication skills in order to partner effectively in a variety of settings, including providing guidance, developing and conducting training and policy documents on regulatory and compliance issues. Proven experience and understanding of applying laws and regulations relating to international trade, market access (imports, exports, labeling and product safety compliance) to support product development and distribution in multiple jurisdictions. Proven strong management and leadership skills, with strong good organizational skills, attention to detail, and solid analytical and problem-solving abilities. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and to balance multiple competing priorities to accomplish compliance objectives while addressing business needs.
