Counsel - Procurement/Real Estate/Construction Duties: Provides sophisticated, pragmatic, proactive legal advice to clients within Operations on all aspects of facilities, manufacturing and operations, with a heavy emphasis on drafting and negotiating both Direct and Indirect Procurement contracts as a U.S. govt. contractor, real estate agreements, construction agreements and safety, health and environmental (SHE) issues. Will support and report to the Head of HR/Labor and Employment and Operations and will be the primary attorney interfacing with the Operations business. Will create sophisticated and efficient process improvement initiatives for the Procurement and the Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) functions, will develop and conduct training, and will coordinate compliance activities for day-to-day work and counseling. Will also assist with HR/Labor and Employment matters, employee investigations and government agency charges/litigation. Provides a cross-business practice perspective or industry perspective to Law Department and business unit management based on prior experience. Contributes to Law Department policy and position-setting based on cross-functional expertise and exposure to multiple aspects of business. A seasoned professional with wide-ranging experience in the relevant areas (Procurement, Real Estate, Construction, Environmental, Employment, Litigation), business acumen, professionalism and sound judgment. Deals with diverse and often times complex and sensitive issues, where analysis may require discretion, collaboration and in-depth evaluation of many factors. Exercises judgment in evaluating methods and may determine criteria for obtaining solutions.. Networks with senior internal and external personnel in area of expertise as well as some key contacts outside area of expertise. Responsible for maintaining and continuously improving the quality system and achieving quality objectives through daily actions. Provide counseling on commercial and business law issues to all functional groups within or providing services to Roche Diagnostics Operations, including business unit management, Manufacturing, Facilities, Procurement, Security, IT, HR and Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE). Develop an in-depth working knowledge of the business unit s business models, priorities and risks and apply this knowledge in delivering legal advice. Provide counseling to HR on a variety of employment-related matters, including disability accommodations, leaves of absence, employment discrimination and harassment claims and charges, discipline and termination matters, reductions-in-force, wage and hour compliance, restrictive covenants, personnel policies and procedures. Balance risk and legal compliance requirements with the impact to the employee experience. Embody the Roche cultural beliefs and do what it takes to ensure that Roche is and continues to be a great place to work . Review and keep business unit management informed of legal developments. Work as a liaison between clients and subject matter expert attorneys to ensure effective mitigation of risk in specialized areas of law. Negotiate, draft and review Direct and Indirect Procurement Agreements and other legal documents required by the business unit. Work with global business area and affiliate attorneys as necessary to assist clients in achieving business goals.

Qualifications: JD Degree from an ABA-accredited law school, licensed to practice law in one or more of the 50 states. 5+ years' experience practicing law at a large to medium sized law firm or within a corporate law or contracting department; practice must include business transactions and contracting. Experience representing a company in a similar industry or that has a highly matrixed structure, or experience representing multiple businesses within Roche Diagnostics. Willingness and ability to deliver a consistent message in the face of pressure or adversity. A demonstrated ability to establish and maintain open, candid and trusting work relationships. Preferred: Can-do attitude and highly collaborative, dynamic individual willing to take stretch assignments and meaningfully contribute in cross-functional/cross-affiliate teams. A demonstrated ability to collaborate and work as a member of a team, and to establish and maintain trusting work relationships. Excellent drafting skills with keen attention to detail. Strong organizational and negotiation skills. Ability to multi-task and multi-deadline a large variety of projects effectively, on time and in a cost-efficient manner. Excellent verbal/written English language communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with executives and all levels with the organization. Litigation experience. Employment Law experience.
