Corporate Attorney The candidate participates in the definition and development of corporate policies, procedures and programs, and provides continuing counsel and guidance on legal matters. Directs the company's recovery process on customers in default on loan obligations including managing the legal process, securing garnishments, and effectively maximizing the collections on these loans. Governs the company's compliance and reporting processes including corporate legal and licensing requirements as well as compliance with TLA, FDCPA, UDAAP, and other federal and state regulatory agency requirements. Serves as key legal advisor on significant business transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures, and joint ventures. Judges the merits of legal cases filed against or on behalf of the company, works with the appropriate executives to define a strategic defense, and arranges for settlements of disputes where warranted. Guides Director of Human Resources on important personnel scenarios. Structures and manages the company's internal legal function and staff. Oversees the selection, retention, management, and evaluation of all outside counsel. Advises on legal aspects of the company's strategies, including assessing and advising on current and future business structures and legal entities. Must have Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school. Should have Licensed attorney of law in the State of Indiana. Must have 5+ years experience in a law firm environment, practicing litigation lawyer, preferably initially with a prominent national law firm before moving to an in-house position. Should have experience working on matters related to consumer collections and recovery of consumer debt. Must have experience working on matters of corporate governance and with a board of directors. Experience managing support staff required. Experience with cost-effective management of outside legal resources essential. Must have experience in dealing with the federal and state regulatory agencies and related legislation. Should have exposure to or familiarity with the following areas of law: Financial Services, Compliance, Collections, Recovery, Garnishments, Bankruptcy.
