Employment Law Attorney The candidate will act as a counselor to the Human Resources department and company management, advising on all employee relations matters by providing day-to-day legal advice and counseling on a wide range of activities and programs related to employment and compensation matters, cultural processes, changes, and reorganizations. Counsel management on handling employee matters, including hiring, discipline, termination, compensation, and benefits. Ensure multi-jurisdictional regulatory compliance on employment related matters, advise the Human Resources team on federal, state, and local law changes. Prepare, review, and deliver materials outlining employment law changes for dissemination to the Human Resources team. Draft, review, and assist with the negotiation of employment, severance, and other employment-related contracts. Prepare, review, and deliver training programs on a wide variety of employment law matters to keep the organization up to date on the cutting edge of employment issues and best practices. Provide practical strategies, training, and counsel for risk avoidance and best practices to the business units and Human Resources team. Oversee and partner with the Human Resources team regarding defense of employment and related claims and responding to administrative claims and inquiries from governmental agencies. Perform key strategic role in the defense of employment disputes and litigation matters. Liaison with and advise Human Resources on the development, update, and maintenance of employment policies and procedures. Engage and partner with outside counsel on advising on and drafting employment-related agreements, changes in employment law, and investigations, litigation, and resolution of employment matters. Provide other legal advice, counsel, and participate on special projects and initiatives as needed.

The candidate should have a Juris Doctorate degree from a top-tier accredited law school and a member in good standing of the New York Bar or a bar of another state. 5-7 years' employment practice experience at a top law firm and/or in-house employment counsel role, with in-house experience strongly preferred. Experience guiding retail and supply chain organizations. Strong knowledge of multi-jurisdictional employment law, and expert knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations relating to employment issues and policies. Excellent analytical ability, advocacy skills, and the ability to propose legally and commercially sound solutions. Excellent written and oral communication skills, negotiation skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to work constructively in a team environment. Ability to supervise internal work and liaison with outside counsel when needed. Must display excellent business judgment and analytical thinking. Progressive, solution-based approach to employment law. Must have strong practical experience in analyzing and advising on all aspects of employment matters, including executive and employee compensation, internal policies and best practices, employment compliance and legal requirements, as well as labor relations and employee disputes. Must have expert knowledge and the ability to advise the Human Resources Team on compliance requirements and existing and prospective employment law issues and changes. Must have experience in leading and managing the defense of employee disputes and litigation.
