Counsel, Compliance Duties: Liaison between other members of the Legal Staff, will manage another compliance professional and oversee GM's corporate required training, the company's compliance training and communications program, and compliance counseling for strategic transactions and joint ventures. Will also handle global compliance issues including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, U.K. Bribery Act and other global anti-corruption laws and compliance standards. Handles cases and/or matters in an efficient and effective manner, and ensures that their practice area is managed to budget. Makes certain that the Legal Department's policies and procedures are met and maintains and supports a culture of legal compliance and excellence. Work in a team of global compliance attorneys and professionals who oversee GM's compliance program. Will work with other members of the Legal Staff and cross-functionally to development and implement the compliance program, provide legal counsel on anti-corruption and compliance related initiatives, assist in investigations and remediation, support compliance risk assessment activities, support compliance reporting and dashboards, support compliance training and communications, and advise on legal standards. Hands-on work in proposing solutions and identifying improvements in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements: JD Degree is required. Law degree from an accredited college or university. Admitted to practice in at least one jurisdiction in the United States and, if not admitted in Michigan, the ability to qualify for in-house counsel status in Michigan. 15 years' compliance or legal experience, experience with compliance programs at an international company preferred. Highly organized and effective in planning and executing compliance program activities covering a very broad range of responsibilities, including legal counsel concerning compliance matters, transaction reviews, business hospitality, compliance liaison networks, identifying gaps and improvements, use of data, oversight of audit activity, training, anti-corruption due diligence of vendors and in mergers & acquisitions, cross-functional projects and transactions, and representing the company in interactions with suppliers, business partners, governments, and industry organizations. Knowledge and experience in key legal trends that impact the business. Managerial courage demonstrated through effective, direct, and respectful communication. Proven ability to establish rapport and create an environment of continuous improvement. Strong oral and written communicator. Commitment to integrity and quality. Financial acumen, including budgeting. Aptitude for critical thinking and succinctly presenting the best course of action. Excellent computer skills, including advanced use of Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge and understanding of automotive industry environment and business needs is desired. Knowledge of, and experience with, a variety of compliance risks commonly managed by corporate compliance counsel, including: Anti-Corruption, Due Diligence, Strategic Transactions and Joint ventures, Conflicts of Interest, Compliance Communications and Training, Policy development, Conflicts of Interest, Non-Retaliation, Investigations. Knowledge of risk management principles. High integrity, initiative, and creativity to bring together individuals from across the Legal Department, Global Functions and the businesses to ensure effective, integrated Anti-Corruption Compliance processes. Support Speak Up policy, encouraging employees to be comfortable asking questions and raising concerns as well as the handling or routing of incoming questions and concerns. Maintain and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
