Division Counsel, IP Litigation The candidate manages company's U.S. and international patent litigation matters, driving strategy with outside counsel and partnering with key internal clients. Leads key litigation proceedings, including depositions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, settlement conferences, and trials. Provides expert counsel on all patent litigation and related issues. Advises senior management on a broad range of key global patent litigation issues. Negotiates and drafts settlement agreements. Identifies highly complex legal issues related to assigned matter; develops alternative solutions, and implements resolution. Leads cross-functional projects. Possesses in-depth knowledge of company's businesses and knowledge of the broader business impact. Keeps abreast of changes in laws that affect client areas. Identifies unmet needs and future legal issues and proactively proposes strategies to optimize outcomes and results for the company. Mentors, coaches and directs attorneys and support staff; serves as a role model and as a champion of the legal department through work ethic, attitude, interpersonal skills and successful results. Will have attorney and support staff direct reports with people management responsibility (provides input into attorney performance evaluations, merit increases and developmental planning and assignments). Plays a key role in selecting, recruiting and developing attorneys and support staff. Advises legal department management of critical project developments in a timely manner. Advises Managers, Directors, Vice Presidents and Officers. Recognized by these clients as both expert in substantive area and relied upon for individual advice. Develops and manages budgets. Evaluates and addresses third party IP rights and advising senior management, including analyzing the validity of competitors patents and potential infringement by the company.

The candidate must have JD degree from an accredited law school. Must have 10+ years of relevant experience with 5+ in a major law firm preferred. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex legal or scientific issues in a simple, understandable manner with colleagues of varying technical knowledge across the company. Must have strong collaborative skills, able to build partnerships and alliances internally and with external partners at all levels of the organization. Must have strong organization and time management skills with flexibility, creativity, resourcefulness to successfully prioritize and manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously. Must have experience directing efforts of junior IP attorneys.
