Director of Litigation, Counsel The candidate will keep abreast of all arising workers compensation case law, rules, and regulations for our core jurisdictions. Inform claims organization of case law which impact claims handling or has educational value. Provide synopsis, the case link, and how it affects claims department policy and procedures. Review claims to ensure appropriate referrals to approved defense counsel. Schedule and attend stewardship meetings with defense counsel. Manage Defense Council and conduct litigation reviews. Maintain Defense Council Guidelines. Assist in the development of a counsel referral method that promotes effective outcomes and minimizes or controls litigation costs. Maintain legal contracts. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with claims staff, supervisors, providers, and other departments of Key Risk. Develop training materials for litigations specialists and claim professionals. The candidate should possess a Juris Doctor and a four-year college degree. Must have 5+ years of experience adjudicating workers' compensation claims. Must possess the ability to seek, learn, retain and accurately apply knowledge of the Workers Compensation Act and Rules and Regulations in jurisdictions assigned. Demonstrate excellent oral and written communications. Possesses analytical, critical thinking, and strategic problem-solving skills. Demonstrate the ability to adapt to a changing environment. Demonstrate ability to perform detailed work and formulate processes to achieve the desired result. Exhibit well-developed interpersonal skills. Evidence of self-motivation and require minimal management direction is required. Demonstrate the use of tact and discretion in all communications and provide a positive contribution to the morale of the department.
