Product Counsel - Payroll Tax The candidate will provide legal support for the company's HCM payroll tax products and services. Take lead in addressing critical issues at the intersection of the law and HCM technology in an exciting, fast-paced company. Provide guidance to teams from product, development, and marketing on legal issues related to payroll tax product features at all stages of the product lifecycle. Track legislative and administrative changes to payroll tax and advise internal teams on required updates. Research payroll and employment tax questions and situations as applicable to our products and services. Identify and implement controls and safeguards to remediate risks and engage or manage remediation projects when gaps are identified. Respond to a wide range of legal payroll tax inquiries regarding the company's products and services. Remain up-to-date on relevant industry laws and regulations impacting product compliance in multiple jurisdictions. Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.
Candidate's with 3+ years of experience advising on the legal and regulatory aspects of product development in the technology space strongly preferred. Must be a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the U.S. Experience in researching and interpreting the law and its application is required. Knowledge of payroll and employment tax laws and rules in the U.S. is required. Knowledge of payroll and employment tax laws in Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand a plus. Combined in-house and law firm experience with a nationwide area of practice preferred. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities is required. Strong research background or experience is required. Must have the ability to translate legal advice into practical guidance for fast-paced product teams. The ability to interpret and apply laws in unsettled contexts is required. Exceptional critical thinking skills, legal research skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills with the proven ability to build effective relationships with internal clients and business partners required. Should be a creative problem-solver who can efficiently resolve complex issues. The ability to produce clear and concise written legal analysis to stakeholders is required.
