Deputy General Counsel- Litigation Duties: Responsible for analyzing, minimizing and managing risk of, and risk from, litigation matters, including the preparation of legal documents and reviewing and revising company policies. Effectively manage internal legal staff and external attorneys/law firms employed by the corporation, including employment, class action, personal injury, contractual and regulatory actions. Ensure that Mohawk's interests are efficiently served by the best legal representation and counsel available. Assist Mohawk's human resources personnel and executives to understand the legal effects of their actions and otherwise provide training/information regarding legal requirements. Advise in creating workplace policies and procedures that are in compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws. Draft and revise agreements. Complete special assignments at the request of the General Counsel, Business Unit President and other Senior Executives. Conduct and oversee research into a variety of legal issues in relevant areas. Provide analysis of legal and policy issues. Perform such other duties as required.
Qualifications: JD degree and active Bar license. 7-10 years legal experience with several years experience both in top tier law firm and corporate law department. Broad commercial legal experience required, with particular focus in litigation, employment law and class actions. Demonstrated experience in the ability to manage internal and contract counsel effectively. Experience in manufacturing, building supply and/or housing industries very beneficial, also experience supporting international operations generally (and Canadian operations, specifically) a plus. Thorough understanding of current federal, state and where appropriate international regulatory requirements affecting public corporations to include SOX, ERISA, EEO, HIPPA, OSHA, ADA and all other laws and regulations. Knowledge of Company operations ? know how business and organizations work. Understand the cultures of organizations and the origin and reasoning behind key policies, practices, and procedures.
