Senior Counsel, Litigation

Senior Counsel, Litigation Duties: Ongoing management of litigation, with emphasis on commercial litigation, employment litigation, and complex civil litigation, including class action litigation. Primary liaison with external litigation counsel and vendors. Oversee/assist in conducting factual investigations, including witness interviews, document collection and data gathering. Ensure implementation of legal holds. Participate in all aspects of discovery, including preparation and/or review of or response to interrogatories, document demands and requests to admit; participation in depositions, including witness preparation; managing e-discovery activities. Participate in all other aspects of litigation including preparation and/or review of pleadings; strategy development and implementation; motion practice; ADR; trial activities; and appeals. Conduct legal research and writing. Draft and negotiate settlement agreements. Engage and manage outside counsel consistently with Company policies and practices. Assess/approve litigation budgets; review and process invoices for legal services; monitor litigation costs; and undertake cost reduction activities as appropriate. Timely communicate case status to management and other internal stakeholders; participate in required disclosure and reporting activities; and update case information in litigation management system. Act as litigation subject matter expert to assist Company counselling attorneys as needed.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from a top quality, nationally recognized, accredited college or university, preferably in top 25% of graduating class. JD Degree from a top quality, nationally recognized, accredited law school, preferably in top 25% of graduating class. Admission in good standing in at least one state Bar. 5-7 years prior experience as an attorney practicing in the area of litigation, with an emphasis on commercial, employment, and complex civil litigation. 5+ years of recent experience in a major law firm's litigation department or a litigation boutique firm. Corporate in-house litigation department experience is preferred. Thorough understanding of litigation practices and procedures, including e-discovery. Exemplary analytical and interpretation skills; strong legal research and writing; excellent (verbal and written) communications and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills with the flexibility and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks; initiative; ability to take independent and decisive action. High professional ethics and good judgment. Facility for working closely with business people, all levels of management and other staff members, outside counsel, expert witnesses and litigation support vendors. A solid performance record.
