Privacy Counsel Duties: Will be responsible for advising and providing support on privacy-related aspects for various payments and commerce projects and work alongside legal, engineering, and business teams. Will report through the Privacy Legal team's product counseling group and will work closely with their privacy policy colleagues in helping advise the business and engineering teams on cutting-edge privacy issues. Deep understanding of financial and general privacy laws, regulations, requirements and industry best practices. Advising the business on legal, regulatory, and business standards. Supporting and monitoring a privacy program, as needed, to ensure that technology and business processes meet applicable legal requirements. Coordinating internal and external investigations, compliance reviews and monitoring activities. Identifying and communicating potential risks areas with leadership. Staying informed of and properly communicating any changes to or developments in privacy laws, regulations, standards, and guidance.
Qualifications: JD Degree with experience in privacy, including financial privacy, and admission to at least one US state Bar. Excellent academic credentials. 3-7 years privacy experience as an associate at a premier law firm or business in-house experience a plus. Experience quickly issue-spotting, analyzing, and clearly communicating privacy advice on complex legal issues. Experience drafting and negotiating privacy-related contracts. Experience conducting ongoing compliance monitoring activities in coordination with other compliance and operational assessment functions. Knowledge of comprehensive privacy laws, prevailing and regulator and other guidance and standards. Understanding of US state and federal sector-specific privacy laws, including financial privacy, marketing, and children's privacy laws. Able to clearly organize and inform through excellent written and verbal communications. Ability to lead, take action, and provide direction in the face of ambiguity. Ability to get results in diverse, fast paced environments. Strong analytical capability with attention to detail. Ability to partner at all levels of the organization.
