Corporate Counsel Responsibilities: Working closely with colleagues in the IP group, collaborate with scientific colleagues to identify and protect new IP opportunities. Prepare and prosecute domestic and foreign patent applications in the field of gene therapy. Conduct freedom-to-operate, invalidity and due diligence investigations and provide business-focused advice to key stakeholders. Assist with transactional work related to areas of responsibility, and provide other IP support as needed. Draft and prosecute patent applications, including conduct strategic prior art analyses on new inventions and work closely with outside counsel during all phases of the patenting process Meet regularly with key stakeholders to timely identify issues and provide legal support Conduct IP investigations and advise key stakeholders on findings. Work on transactional matters related to areas of responsibility.
Requirements: JD Degree required / Licensed in one or more jurisdictions. Advanced degree in the sciences preferred. Strong working knowledge of IP issues. Some experience conducting IP investigations and drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the chemical and/or biotechnology arts preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, management skills, and a strong work ethic. Strong analytical skills required in order to understand the scope of new inventions and the state of the art, in order to effectively work with Spark scientists and external counsel to secure strong patent protection on Spark technologies. Must be able to effectively communicate key legal principles to internal stakeholders.
