Intellectual Property (IP) Attorney Duties: Regularly make presentations and interact with the business with regard to intellectual property legal matters including patents, open source and standards. Provide a full range of support functions related to open source software, including vetting proposals to use open source software and to contribute to and/or create open source projects, and helping to develop and enforce open source policies for the company.
Requirements: JD Degree, admission to practice before the USPTO and licensed to practice in at least one state are required; undergraduate or advanced degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field is required. 5+ years of law firm or corporate law department experience is required, and a mix of both types of experience is preferred. A demonstrated background in the computer and software arts, including drafting and prosecution of patent applications in the computer and software arts, is required. Experience in the rendering of patentability and non-infringement opinions is required. Ability to articulate and communicate with and positively engage their clients is required; must be able give well organized, thoughtful presentations to upper management. Desirable Requirements: Experience in due diligence activities is preferred. Experience in technology license drafting and negotiation is preferred. Experience in providing legal support for open source software and standards organizations is preferred.
