Employment Counsel Responsibilities: Assume substantial responsibility for providing legal advice and research to the company with respect to its obligations and liabilities under federal and state laws affecting its employment and consulting relationships in the United States. Advise the company with respect to state and federal law issues arising in providing employee benefits and compensation, including as to corporate policies and payroll practices. Assist the company in negotiating and managing its contracts with employee benefit providers. Assist the company in preparing employment-related agreements. Advise the company regarding reporting requirements to state and federal entities with respect to employee compensation and benefits including DOL and IRS compliance reports. Advise the company with respect to employee benefit plan administration, testing, amendments and exceptions, as well as communication of plan parameters (e.g., summary plan descriptions) to the workforce. Periodically conduct compliance audits of employment related plans, policies and procedures. Support the People and Culture team in liaising with outside employment resources, including external law firms and ex-US employment management organizations. Periodically review, revise and supplement corporate employment policies and procedures to ensure they appropriately reflect legal and regulatory developments. Support the Total Rewards team and Finance in identifying legally appropriate compensation and benefits options; in addition, support presentation of such options to management and the Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors. Work cross-functionally with internal Corporate Securities and Governance counsel as necessary to ensure corporate compliance with compensation-related public company rules. Appropriately triage workflow priorities, setting appropriate client expectations for delivery of results. Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of the company's business, organizational structure, reporting relationships, core business practices, policies and procedures, as these relate to its workforce. Keep informed of new laws, regulations, and industry trends affecting the company's relationships with its workforce.. Maintain a positive spirit of solution-oriented partnership and collaboration with internal clients, internal legal colleagues and outside counsel.

Requirements: JD Degree from a nationally accredited law school. Post-doctoral education desirable. 5+ years prior in-house or law firm experience providing legal counsel on the laws and regulations relating to employment relationships. Strong verbal and written business communication skills are critical to success at the Company. Will be highly adept at synthesizing and summarizing complex and/or voluminous content into clear, concise and actionable recommendations. Strong influencing/EQ skills are essential. Will have a track record of working collaboratively with a variety of different personalities at different organizational levels. Ability to work under fast-paced conditions, comfortable making decisions and demonstrates good judgment. Excellent project management skills will be needed to triage workflow demands. The successful candidate will be comfortable prioritizing multiple tasks and goals to ensure timely, on-target outcomes. Committed team player while taking initiative to get results with minimal supervision. Position is based in Seattle (open to remote). Counsel based in Seattle must be able to become a member of the Washington bar, if not already a member.
