Lead Privacy Counsel Duties: Providing clear and practical advice to the various teams throughout the business on the implication of data privacy rules, and how to effectively comply with them. Advising on HIPAA, contractual and state law provisions in respect of PHI processing activities. Working closely with product, research, engineering, security and data analytics teams. Managing US legal privacy matters as they arise, and effectively liaising with stakeholders to bring these to a close. Preparing brief but effective privacy legal advice to convey material risk points to the business and ensuring the effective sign-off of key risks. Effectively working with incident management teams to navigate the business through US data protection and privacy incidents. Negotiating and drafting data protection and privacy provisions in commercial agreements, and drafting notices, authorizations and privacy policy language. Working effectively across multiple states with development of working knowledge of key state law matters which impact the business and how to navigate them. Monitoring and responding to developments in US privacy, data protection and information security, including new laws, regulations, key judgements, and regulatory guidance. Digesting privacy rules quickly and determining the impact for the business and helping to set the risk tolerance for approach. Working efficiently across many projects and issues effectively at the same time. Ensuring appropriate privacy-by-design is implemented to the product to meet legal obligations. Partner with senior leaders and commercial stakeholders to embed privacy protections into new and existing products, as well as advise on ways to minimize legal privacy risks. Management of a Paralegal A team player, working effectively as a part of Global Legal function, reporting into Babylon's Global Data Protection Officer and Counsel.
Qualifications: HIPAA and healthcare experience is essential. Experience working in the technology sector is highly desirable. Data Protection and Privacy subject matter expert who has 5+ years professional experience in a data-privacy focused role. Be able to demonstrate a high degree of capability to balance pragmatism with technical privacy advice. Able to influence stakeholders through a degree of commercial acumen that inspires trust and confidence. Supports others to see the bigger picture .
