Division Counsel - Field Operations and Employment Law The candidate will with the oversight of Vice President- Field Ops, provides legal support and advice to Division leadership and staff on matters including HR/personnel matters, customer disputes, regulatory oversight and compliance, investigations, and litigation/dispute resolution. Will provides advice and counsel to Human Resources, Associate Relations and Operations on all aspects of employment law. Directs investigations by Asset Protection and/or Human Resources. Analyzes complex commercial/business concepts and identifies relevant legal issues and related real-world risks; provides prompt, clear and practical legal analysis, advice, and solutions; and generally, assists the business in achieving its goals. Utilizes high-level communication skills, both oral and written, to effectively communicate with various levels of staff and management, and in various settings. Advises, counsels, and actively participates in the development of regional and corporate procedures, practices, and systems that support business objectives, mitigate risks, and facilitate a culture of compliance. Exercises sound legal judgment while acting as a key partner for internal business stakeholders; acts independently and prioritizes tasks while considering relevant risk, business and objectives. Develops and delivers training on legal issues. Supports the Company's diversity objectives. Manages outside counsel handling employment-related lawsuits, including class actions. Responds to attorney demand letters and negotiate an early resolution of employment disputes. Represents the Company in matters before federal, state and local administrative agencies. Facilitates communication between Divisions and Legal Department SME's.
The candidate should have a JD degree from an accredited law school and strong academic credentials. In-house experience strongly preferred. Experience managing outside counsel and legal budgets preferred. Must be licensed to practice law and in good standing under the Bar of any state that enables admission to practice as in-house counsel. Should have 6+ years of experience, with emphasis on employment law.
