Senior Associate General Counsel - Litigation The candidate will be managing and resolving disputes as a member enterprise litigation team. Matters span the five Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans that the company operates in Texas, Illinois, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Montana. Split between strategic oversight of litigation filed against the company and any related risk mitigation legal advice to management, on one hand, and leading strategic implementation and management of the company's affirmative litigation and recovery efforts, on the other. Should have a Law degree from accredited law school with admittance to the Texas or Illinois Bar (or another state where the company does business or ability to be admitted within 6 months). Must have 8 years of experience as a litigation attorney with significant experience handling life, health, and disability matters or other complex commercial litigation. Experience in managing client relations or communicating on complex matters across a variety of business divisions in connection with litigation matters is required. Should preferably have experience litigating health plan benefits and payer-provider disputes for insurers, health plans or their third-party administrators under state and federal laws, including ERISA, defending and prosecuting claims arising from special investigations into a member or provider fraud, waste or abuse and handling complex commercial litigation at a large law firm or specialized law firm focused on life, health, and disability litigation. First or second-chair experience in the state and federal courts of one or more states where the company does business is preferred. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and develop a sound approach for handling a variety of litigation matters and objectives while minimizing cost and burden on the company is needed. Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment while effectively managing multiple projects and competing priorities.
