Associate General Counsel, Environmental Law Responsibilities: Understands the strategic and tactical objectives of the business units or functions served and the associated legal implications of business plans and processes. Provides practical advice to improve legal compliance and mitigate risk taking into consideration the needs of the business and the resources available. Sets priorities for and manages others effectively. Helps support and build a strong and cohesive team through coaching, development, empowerment and motivation. Provides leadership through leveraging of changes in the regulatory environment to enable the business to identify and solve environmental issues. Takes leadership roles among in-house counsel and other legal professionals, outside counsel and client personnel on specific initiatives, projects or goals related to environmental law. Effectively and cost efficiently manages and directs outside counsel as needed to support execution of projects, transactions or matters. Provides training and guidance to other attorneys and support staff and to the businesses served in specialized area of knowledge. Works with other pertinent members of the Legal Department to put together cross department teams to address complex issues. Provides occasional legal support on other subject matters outside environmental law, including health, safety and sustainability.

Qualifications: JD Degree or international equivalent from a nationally or internationally recognized institution. 10+ years of demonstrated professional experience, including two years experience in a corporate environment with a high level of complexity, or substantially equivalent direct counseling experience. Proven experience with counseling business clients. Experience in addressing multinational legal issues. Significant prior experience with all environmental media (air, water, waste, product compliance). Experience providing general compliance counseling and permit review and submission oversight for business clients. Fluent in Spanish; fluency also in Portuguese preferred. Comfortable communicating with regulators. Consistently and broadly recognized achievement of the Law Department's Professional Standards, including critical thinking, sound judgment, the ability to view issues holistically, balancing benefit and risk to make decisions that are in the best interests of the business, and being a genuine team player that willingly collaborates, mentors and can take on additional and varied responsibilities as business needs dictate. Ability to function in a high paced legal environment and to proactively develop strategies to ensure efficient and effective counsel. Experience with environmental laws outside of the U.S. Able to develop long and short-term solutions that consider the current and future needs of the business.
