Counsel, Employment Law The candidate will be reporting to the General Counsel, you will serve as Legal Advisor to our Chief Human Resource Officer on all matters relating to US employment law and strategy. Our diverse workforce is represented by complex network of exempt, non-exempt, union and non-union employees, in both centralized corporate hubs and dispersed field operations, across 6 major brands. As a member of the CHRO's Leadership Team, will serve as an important advisor, providing legal counsel for federal and state employment law, and advising on legal implications and potential outcomes/concerns for strategic initiatives, employment related litigation, and relevant legal matters, as we navigate a period of profound growth and deployment. Reporting to the General Counsel, you will provide expert legal advice and counsel to the CHRO, leadership and corporate personnel on all US-based employment related matters, including strategic initiatives, EEOC related litigation and claims, risk assessment and all matters impacting Avis's diverse employee base. Serve as Legal Advisor to the CHRO on legal considerations in the planning and implementation of new and existing business initiatives, activities and policies relative to Avis's employee base. Act as Subject Matter Expert to the broader Human Resource organization on employment related matters. Review and provide guidance on the development and implementation of employment policies and compliance initiatives. Proactively address legal implications of federal and state statutes, administrative regulations, and judicial decisions as they impact Avis employees and concerns. Advise and provide recommendation to leadership on enterprise-wide regulatory issues and corporate policy relative to existing legal environment. Oversee employment related litigation and regulatory matters for the company, including coordinating/managing outside counsel to ensure timeliness, efficiency and excellence of service. Serve as primary contact for US-related employee benefits matters, including corporate governance, litigation and plan design, administration, and compliance matters. JD and active Bar admission in any US state. 2+ years of experience as an attorney advising public, commercial organizations on employment law. Minimum of 2 years experience working in a corporate legal environment, preferably with a global organization serving a US-based, partially unionized workforce. Ability to serve as a business partner to corporate leaders and build consensus on complex law and business issues while viewing legal issues through a business lens. Experience interfacing and providing advice to the highest levels of senior leadership within a large, global, publicly traded corporation. Comfort articulating an empirically sound and relevant opposing perspective as needed, when in service to the mission and protection of company interests. Strong project management experience, including experience successfully engaging outside counsel in service of corporate objectives and needs. Ability to build trusting partnerships with corporate managers and executives, and contribute to matters of legal and strategic relevance. Highly effective negotiating skills, with solid business instincts and judgement. Creative and flexible problem-solving skills and decision making with ability to drive matters to timely resolution.
