Assistant General Attorney/General Attorney (Transactional/Contracts) 1 Duties: support internal clients on transactions with suppliers and other counterparties. Review, drafting and negotiation of a wide variety of agreements regarding all aspects of operations, including high-value purchase and service agreements with suppliers and agreements with other external parties regarding operational, commercial, real estate, and construction issues. Will provide ongoing counseling to Strategic Sourcing department and other departments on issues related to those agreements. Will also assist in the administration and maintenance of contract management system, working as part of a team of lawyers and paralegals managing that function. May also involves providing legal counsel regarding general law and operational regulations for a major Class I railroad, including research and legal advice under the supervision of senior attorneys on administrative, regulatory, and commercial law issues.
Qualifications: Must have a graduate or bachelor's degree; JD Degree, current law license (Texas preferred); Strong academic background; 2-7 years of relevant work experience as a practicing lawyer (in-house, law firm or government) handling complex contract negotiations and transactions; High performing individual with ability to handle complex and challenging assignments with extremely short turnaround deadlines; srong negotiation skills and ability to build consensus and communicate compelling legal/business justification for position; Must possess excellent legal research, verbal and written communication skills and ability to handle complex and challenging assignments with extremely short turnaround deadlines. Should possess knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Lexis/Nexis research system and other web-based legal research tools. Experience in the transportation or manufacturing industry a plus.
