Principal Counsel - Litigation Responsibilities: Defend the Company in all aspects of claims and litigated matters in state and federal courts. Lead document preservation efforts, collect facts and evidence, interview witnesses, draft and revise legal briefs, negotiate and draft settlement agreements. Supervise and manage all aspects of outside counsel relationships, including: development of case strategy, preparation of motions and discovery responses, witness identification and preparation, trial preparation, staffing, budgets and invoices, and compliance with outside counsel guidelines. Represent the Company at hearings, mediations, and other court related proceedings, as necessary. Supervise and provide direction to paralegal and administrative staff. Advise Risk Management Department on management of personal injury claims, including complex and high profile matters. Advise legal and business colleagues on a wide variety of contractual, safety, dispute resolution, risk mitigation, and negotiation-related legal and practical issues. Oversee responses to subpoenas and other routine legal inquires. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws and regulations at the federal, state, and local level. Implement procedures and standards to increase the quality and efficiency of legal services and to reduce the Company's legal risks.
Qualifications: JD from ABA accredited law school. Admitted in Florida or ability to take Florida Bar (and be admitted) within 12 months. 8-12 years of litigation experience in a law firm or corporate legal department or combination of the 2, with a significant concentration in defense of commercial, personal injury, and complex litigation. Substantial trial and other case management experience, including overseeing E-Discovery preservation and production efforts. Ability to analyze complex issues and devise practical strategies and solutions in a timely manner, while pursuing multiple, sometimes competing priorities. First-rate judgment and ethics and the ability to represent The Walt Disney Company's brand with integrity. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. A writing sample will be required. Exceptional interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with outside counsel, coworkers, and clients at all levels. Experience with maritime, disability, and/or consumer protection litigation are plus factors. Experience and familiarity with the Orange County, FL state and federal courts is a plus factor.
