Intellectual Property (IP) Attorney The candidate will provide a full range of intellectual property legal support including, open-source reviews, standards issues, patent preparation and prosecution, patent portfolio development, freedom-to-operate analysis, rendering opinions, managing outside counsel, drafting and negotiating licenses, development and research collaboration agreements, and due diligence support for business development and counselling client. Will regularly make presentations and interact with the business with regard to intellectual property legal matters including patents, open-source, and standards. Provide a full range of support functions related to open source software, including vetting proposals to use open source software and to contribute to and/or create open-source projects, and helping to develop and enforce open source policies for the company.
The candidate should have a J.D. degree, admission to practice before the USPTO, and be licensed to practice in at least one state. An undergraduate or advanced degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field is required. Must have 5+ years of law firm or corporate law department experience, and a mix of both types of experience is preferred. A demonstrated background in the computer and software arts, including drafting and prosecution of patent applications in the computer and software arts, is required. Experience in the rendering of patentability and non-infringement opinions is needed. Experience in due diligence activities is preferred. Experience in technology license drafting and negotiation is desired. Experience in providing legal support for open source software and standards organizations is an asset.
