Counsel - Litigation The candidate will responsible for oversight of litigation dockets covering a wide variety of matters involving the organization, including but not limited to personal injury, premises liability, commercial disputes and general legal support. Knowledgeable of complex litigation, eDiscovery and trial practice. Active in all facets of litigation, including claim analysis, fact-gathering, internal investigations, participant interviews, custodian determination, reviewing key documents, issue-spotting, discovery, witness and key document identification, witness preparation, revising legal briefs, development and execution of case and trial strategy, and negotiating/drafting settlements. Develop, prepare and present case theories and strategies, including eDiscovery strategies, as well as a range of acceptable outcomes, working collaboratively with internal clients and outside counsel where appropriate. Identify suitable outside counsel to represent the organization; pro-active and collaborative management of outside counsel including strategy, staffing, work product, budgets and developing initiatives for efficiently managing spend. Develop and manage litigation budgets, including eDiscovery budgets, attempting to identify efficiencies and cost savings where possible. Keep colleagues and internal clients timely apprised of case status and developments; prepare and deliver written and oral presentations to internal clients, including senior executives, on legal issues. Learn business and industry. Insure consistent implementation of legal department SOP. Exercise organizational agility. Ability to adapt, innovate, collaborate and think strategically. Learn internal procedures and processes. Learn the IP Way Forward and businesses. Learn budget management. Communicate effectively. Dealing with hard conversations and adapting Juris Doctorate degree from accredited law school; member in good standing of a state bar and willingness to achieve admission to State Bar of Tennessee. Exceptional interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral communication skills. Presentation skills. High level judgment and decision making skills. Ability to step-in and work with minimal supervision, and the ability and desire to rapidly learn and grow in responsibility are required. 8+ years legal experience. Trial experience in general litigation are required. Written and verbal communications are required.
