Associate General Counsel- Real Estate

Associate General Counsel- Real Estate Duties: Oversee the legal function of real estate team, including developing processes, supervising direct reports and outside counsel, managing allocation of workload and ensuring project and department goals and milestones are met. Support the Real Estate Department with a high volume of leases, real estate purchases, construction agreements, site diligence materials, easements, title commitments, and other lease/development related agreements. Coordinate with all business lines, the Legal Department, and others to ensure the various moving parts of many concurrent real estate transactions are accurately and effectively managed. Draft and, occasionally in conjunction with outside counsel, review, negotiate and revise commercial real estate purchase agreements, retail leases, and acquisition-related documents, including lease amendments, cross-parking/access easements, use restrictions and utility easements, while providing counsel on letters of intent, brokerage representation agreements, confidentiality agreements and other collateral documents. Review, negotiate, and analyze site specific due diligence, including title insurance commitments, surveys and environmental/geotechnical reports. Manage and oversee real estate purchases and sale leaseback transactions from start to closing, while ensuring that deal timelines and tasks are effectively completed. As needed, coordinate with external real estate counsel, local land use counsel, other internal teams, vendors and service providers.

Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited undergraduate institution. A JD Degree and strong academic record from an accredited law school with 7-10 years of legal experience in commercial real estate at a major law firm or with a sophisticated in-house legal department. Membership in good standing with a United States State Bar. Proven track record of effectively managing a team to achieve departmental and organizational goals. Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to maintain highly detailed records. Demonstrated experience in conducting real estate diligence and negotiating and closing both real estate purchases and real estate leases. Willingness to spend considerable time drafting, reviewing and analyzing real estate contracts, while collaborating on strategy and risk considerations. Ability to differentiate between theoretical and real-world considerations in a fast-paced dynamic real estate department that requires a balance between critical thinking and efficient decision-making. Excellent communication skills necessary to coordinate amongst deal counterparties, all levels of internal teams and business units, professional service providers, and outside counsel. Ability to prioritize/re-prioritize multiple projects and/or deadlines in a fast-paced work environment. Enthusiasm and energy to contribute to and thrive in an energetic and rapidly-evolving company with a collaborative atmosphere. Self-starter with an appetite for problem-solving and ability to own  projects or tasks to see goals through to completion. Hiring is contingent on candidate verifying their eligibility to work in the United States and passing a complete background check and drug screen.
