Employment Counsel Duties: Partner with and provide legal guidance to colleagues in Human Resources and other key business partners regarding all substantive employment law areas. Assist with providing employment legal advice in a broad range of employment related matters and projects, both in the US and globally. Draft and counsel on employment-related documents, including contracts, offer letters, agreements and policies. Provide advice and develop strategy with senior leadership on company-wide initiatives affecting employees. Lead employment law-related projects, including process reviews, new policy creation and implementation, and creation and delivery of training programs. Handle and/or provide support on employment-related pre-litigation and litigation matters. Monitor legislation, regulations, case law, and government oversight activities relating to employment issues and provide proactive, strategic advice to the relevant partners. Counsel key partners concerning employment-related matters in new markets. Provide legal support for diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.
Qualifications: Law degree (or equivalent) from a respectable law school. 5+ years of experience working at a credible law firm and/or in-house with employment counseling. Experienced in partnering with global partners. Guided mergers and acquisitions and post-acquisition work. love to unpack legal problems; can explain legal concepts to non-lawyers. Problem solver, and can stay calm when problems come your way. Self-motivated, analytic and can identify and handle the matters at hand without being instructed. Can balance lots of simultaneous tasks and triage to make sure the right matters get your attention. Willing to dig in on projects. Work well as part of a team both with other lawyers and with non-legal partners. Qualified to practice law as in-house counsel. California and international (non-US) experience is desired. Union experience is a plus.
