Assistant General Counsel (Employment Law) Duties: Manage and participate in active Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and state agency proceedings, as well as active disputes, alleging violations of various federal statutes, including Title VII, the ADEA, the ADA, the FLSA, the FMLA, and various state and local laws. Manage and participate in litigation, as well as employment-related Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) matters such as mediations and arbitrations. Conduct internal investigations with respect to allegations of unlawful behavior, such as sexual or racial harassment, other alleged discriminatory conduct or retaliation. Work closely and collaboratively with the Employee Investigations Team in Talent, coordinating and guiding investigations involving personnel and escalated issues of legal risk. Advise with respect to firm compensation/wage and hour matters, leave and accommodation requests, benefits policies, including Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), affirmative action and occasional immigration matters. Advise and manage outside counsel with regard to H1B Visa applications. Advise, develop and/or approve firm employment-related policies, presentations and training, including diversity and inclusiveness materials and social justice initiatives. Provide strategic guidance to Talent Team and business leaders on best practices pursuant to legal guidelines and maintaining a respectful work environment and assist with the resolution of workplace issues. Create, update and participate in educational training sessions for the firm's practice leaders and Talent Team professionals on current employment laws and their impact on firm policies and procedures. Vet proposed terminations and consult with human resource professionals and business leaders to devise and articulate selection criteria for reductions in force (RIF), exit incentive and early retirement programs. Provide detailed analysis of written business cases, demographics and adverse impact to minimize litigation risk. Advise and, as necessary, draft, review and/or negotiate employment and separation agreements, consulting agreements, confidentiality agreements and other employment-related contracts. Manage outside counsel and actively participate in strategy for employment cases referred to external counsel. Assist in the preparation of litigation, investigation and code of conduct charts and reports. Represent the firm and executives in various employment-related legal proceedings or at various industry-related groups addressing employment matters. Provides advice and direction to enterprise business units and the People plus Culture Team regarding human resource issues.

Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited 4-year college/university; top of class preferred. Juris Doctor (JD) from a top law school; top of class preferred. Membership in good standing in the State Bar as an attorney qualified to practice law in one of the jurisdictions in primary office (Bedminster, NJ, Atlanta, GA, St. Petersburg, FL or St. Louis, MO, preferably in New Jersey) or the ability to obtain in-house counsel authorization in these States. Must have 7+ years of experience as a practicing attorney preferably in a law firm or corporate legal department actively practicing Employment Law and participating in Employment Law-related Litigation. Should have substantial experience in managing complex employment litigations and negotiating settlement agreements and releases; representing clients at EEOC, NLRB, FEP agencies, DOL, OSHA and other government agencies, mediation, and settlement conferences; conducting sensitive internal investigations; and providing employment law risk management advice. Broad knowledge of all federal and state employment and labor laws, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Equal Pay Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, the Federal WARN Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the NLRA, various wage and hour laws, and experience conducting or overseeing internal investigations relating to same. Knowledge of international employment issues, including immigration and related international mobility issues. Strong organizational skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to understand complex problems and articulate conclusions and solutions clearly and concisely. Excellent interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated record of collaboration, being a team player, and forming strong working relationships with clients. The ability to collaboratively work with a larger team of Legal, Compliance, and Regulatory Affairs colleagues and meaningfully contribute to a team environment. The ability to manage and handle sensitive and confidential information with the highest levels of integrity, ethical standards, and discretion. Demonstrated ability to act as a solution based, strategic business partner and appropriately assess risk in a fast paced, evolving corporate environment.
