Assistant Counsel, Employment Duties: Provide counsel to the Company's HR professionals and business managers on all aspects of employment related legal issues, including employee relations issues, employee classifications, performance management, restrictive covenants, leaves of absence, investigations, discipline, wage and hour and reductions in force. Develop policies, templates and guidance to ensure compliance with various legal and business requirements. Provide counsel on employee-related service agreements with outside vendors. Develop training for HR and Company employees regarding employment law matters. Monitor legal developments in employment and labor law and make recommendations to address same. Investigate and defend employment related administrative claims and lawyer's letters. Manage litigation, including managing outside counsel, case management and case strategy and provide support on employment class action litigation as requested by Employment Law Team. Provide support to the employment law team on strategic initiatives and projects. Provide support to the employment law team with respect to mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, including due diligence and drafting employment agreements. Provide other legal assistance as needed on employment law and other matters.

Qualifications: JD Degree, admission in good standing to the Bar of the State of New York and 5+ years experience in the practice of employment law. Corporate in-house experience preferred. Labor relations and/or retail experience a plus. Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize workload, adapt to changing conditions and execute with excellence in a complex matrix environment. Strong ability to think strategically to resolve matters effectively and efficiently and to build collaborative relationships with senior management, business leaders and HR. Must be able to independently handle employment law matters and understand which issues to elevate Excellent legal and business judgment; a high degree of discretion; and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
