Chief Litigation & Employment Counsel (Director Level) The candidate will support the General Counsel in providing leadership for key elements of Firms' risk assessment and risk management programs. Will directly handle - and oversee outside counsel in cost-effectively handling - many different types of claims, lawsuits, and negotiations on a wide array of complex legal, business, and insurance issues. These may include acquisitions, contracts, risk management, regulatory compliance, state and federal employment guidelines and requirements, and strategy. Apply knowledge of industry best practices to identify trends and reduce Firms' exposure. Work closely with HR on a variety of employment issues such as non-compete reviews, employment investigations and negotiations, separations, EEOC claims, federal and state employment compliance, drafting policies and procedures, and many other HR-related projects. Work closely with the Litigation Paralegal to carry out investigations, prepare discovery responses and production, respond to FINRA requests, handle claims and lawsuits, and many other tasks. Coordinate with the Group s insurers and broker on claims as appropriate. Perform other legal duties as may be directed by the General Counsel.
The candidate should have Law Degree (J.D.) from an accredited institution. Must have Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. Should have 8 years of experience as an employment and/or commercial litigation attorney, ideally some of which has been in an in-house environment. Experience providing legal advice in one or more of the following additional areas: construction law, environmental law, insurance, intellectual property, or consulting, or similar services needed. Must have proven success in consistently managing litigation matters to efficient and economically sensible outcomes. The ability to write and communicate in Spanish and/or a language other than English is a plus.
