Senior Employment Counsel Duties: Provide advice and counsel on a broad range of employment issues, including, but not limited to, in the areas of recruiting, hiring, employee relations, investigations, terminations, wage and hour compliance, leaves of absence, and reasonable accommodation. Manage outside counsel in employment-related legal proceedings. Pro-actively manage compliance efforts, including, but not limited to, meal and rest break, OSHA, and wage and hour compliance. Investigate and prepare position statements in response to EEOC, DoL and other state and federal agency charges. Manage outside counsel in employment-related legal proceedings, including overseeing case strategy, managing costs, preparing document productions, and responding to discovery requests. Draft and update employment policies, including, but not limited to, employee handbooks and bonus plans. Conduct in-person, telephonic, and webinar trainings regarding practical application of employment law and provide guidance and updates to operations on new and upcoming state and federal laws and regulations. Monitor laws and regulations affecting the restaurant industry and advise regarding compliance efforts, including, alcohol sales, employee training, and menu regulations. Manage compliance efforts, including, meal and rest break and wage and hour compliance, by developing and implementing innovative compliance review systems and departmental procedures, identifying opportunities to automate and otherwise improve those systems and procedures to maximize compliance efforts. Partner with Legal and Risk Management to oversee the background process for our self-delivery program in compliance with state and federal laws. Assist in responding to federal and state inquiries and notices relating to meal and rest break compliance and wage and hour laws. Prepare and respond to all third-party subpoenas. Consult with and advise People team regarding personnel decisions (including but not limited to recruiting, hiring, promotions, and terminations), investigations, leaves of absence, accommodation requests, and any other employee-related decision that arises on a daily basis.

Qualifications: JD Degree from ABA-accredited law school, superior academic credentials. Member in good standing of at least one State Bar (California preferred) and (if applicable) eligible to become certified as an authorized Counsel in California. 8+ years of employment law experience (large law firm and/or in-house experience strongly preferred). Experience in advising retail and/or restaurant clients preferred. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to all levels of management, staff, outside counsel, and business partners. Approaches obstacles proactively and looks for creative solutions to further business needs. Ability to work in a collaborative environment and a strong dedication to providing prompt, excellent client service to internal and external partners. Analytical ability and strong attention to detail.
