Employment Counsel - Americas The candidate will work cross-functionally with the Human Resources organization, business leaders from across the Company, and other stakeholders to fulfill the Employment Law Group's mission of innovating scalable, business-oriented legal strategies and risk-aligned solutions that drive the success of the firm and its workforce, while promoting an EPIC2 culture. First 60 Days: Understand the current Firm landscape and culture and develop relationships with members of the global Employment Law Group, HR stakeholders, and business leaders. Act as the primary employment law contact for assigned Human Resource clients. This work includes advising HR professionals and business leaders about employment law issues in the Americas, including discrimination, retaliation, wrongful termination, wage and hour, ADA/FMLA, and restrictive covenants. Serve as a contributor to colleagues about legal and related business matters, with an emphasis on employment matters. This work includes developing and reviewing written HR policies, guidelines, processes, templates, intranet sites, and training materials. Act as a key member of a global Employment Law Group. This work includes working across borders to collaborate on global initiatives, identifying when a particular issue or question needs a global perspective, and succinctly and clearly sharing information with global employment law colleagues. Keep up to date on relevant employment law developments. First 120 Days: Identify areas of risk and opportunity in the employment space and develop/lead initiatives to drive improvement and measurable change. Establish strong, influencing relationships with business leaders and other key stakeholders. Actively participate in Employment Law Group and business stakeholder meetings. Provide constructive feedback on processes, procedures, and policies based on employment law experience. Understand and start to implement the global Employment Law Group's goals of innovating scalable solutions for the business and the HR stakeholders. Review and understand the firm's local and global policies for quick reference. Requirements: Be a trusted legal advisor who provides practical and business-oriented legal advice to the global HR organization and the business regarding all aspects of the employer/employee relationship including, restrictive covenants, hiring, performance management, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage, and hour, restrictive covenants, leaves and accommodations, compensation and benefits, reductions-in-force, contractor issues, and diversity and inclusion. Collaborate and partner effectively with colleagues across the Legal Team to provide strong client service in a high volume and fast-paced environment. Advice and help HR and business leaders understand compliance issues, particularly employment law-related compliance issues. Collaborate with HR to generate and implement training on HR and employment law topics. Identify and engage appropriate stakeholders to escalate issues, articulate recommendations, and provide options on complex legal issues. Interact with outside counsel or other service providers to address and resolve project-specific issues, including both pre-litigation and agency charges and project-based work. Provide employment support in mergers and acquisitions, including due diligence and post-close integration. Support the Global Employment Lead by leading and managing global employment-related projects.
