Counsel - Labor Employment and Litigation Responsibilities: Provide practical labor and employment-related legal advice and counsel to the company's Human Resources professionals and company management. This responsibility includes legal research and oral and written advice on a broad range of employment and labor law issues, e.g., terminations and discipline, leaves of absence and reasonable accommodations, wage and hour considerations, harassment and discrimination investigations and outcomes, and labor union practices. Assist in managing litigation and outside counsel. Respond to demands, threats of litigation, and information requests and represents the company in labor & employment, products liability and general litigation. Lead records requests (subpoena, employee requests, discovery) processes to ensure timely and complete collection and delivery of required records. Assist in development and drafting of policies and other communications for employee audiences. Develop and deliver training to HR partners and other colleagues on employment trends and compliance subjects. Partner with HR to design of internal investigations; analyze legal and factual issues; conduct legal research; independently develop and present recommended legal strategies and case handling. Maintain knowledge of current and emerging legal developments, trends, and innovations. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: JD Degree from an accredited law school. Admitted to state bar and in good standing. 1 3 years of substantive labor and employment and litigation experience (employment defense litigation is a plus). Ability to determine and understand the company's objectives and risk tolerance and to incorporate the information in making legal decisions. Ability to conduct and analyze legal research to determine applicable legal principles. Knowledge of and ability to analyze effect of company policies on business activities. Clearly articulate ideas, opinions, and information, in spoken and written form. Ability to adjust priorities in response to unanticipated events. Close attention to detail. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive issues with maturity and professionalism. Friendly, upbeat, with a great attitude and willingness to learn. Excellent time management and organizational skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels.
