Director, Employment Counsel The candidate will provide solution-focused, risk-based legal guidance and support on all aspects of employment law, including HR practices, performance management, terminations, recruiting, hiring, compensation and benefits, wage and hour, complex employee relations matters and investigations, diversity & inclusion initiatives, harassment and discrimination prevention strategies, leave of absence, accommodations, contingent workforce issues, and employment policies. Partner with the company's Operations team to advise on a range of matters, including contingent workforce and related employment law issues. Partner with the Modern Health People team to handle and support compliance, employee relations issues, internal investigations, audits, pre-dispute conflicts, employment law claims, arbitrations and labor matters. Work closely with outside counsel to manage risk and ensure that internal partners receive effective business-focused employment law support. Support the company's commitment to a discrimination and harassment-free workplace by assisting on employment compliance projects as needed and providing training to managers and employees. Develop and maintain appropriate agreements, policies, procedures and guidelines related to employment law matters, and review employment-related legal issues associated with Modern Health's policies, procedures, and guidelines as applicable.

The candidate should have 10+ years of employment and labor law experience at a highly respected law firm, in-house corporate environment, and/or government service. A J.D. from a top-tier law school and record of strong academic achievement (CA bar license or RIHC required). Substantial counseling experience across a wide range of employment law issues including recruitment, background checks/screening, hiring, leaves of absence, termination, compensation, health and welfare benefits, contingent workforce management, diversity and inclusion, discrimination, immigration sponsorship and employment-related contracts. Experience advising on matters arising with a global workforce and working environment. Demonstrated experience in advising on matters adjacent to employment law questions and strong aptitude for issue-spotting. Excellent judgment, strong communication (verbal and written), adept interpersonal skills, and ability to effectively collaborate with multiple groups and functions. Ability to organize, prioritize, and skillfully balance a wide variety of issues and projects. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines and act decisively. Ability to present complex issues in a clear and concise manner and provide succinct, practical and results-oriented legal advice.
