Corporate Counsel Duties: Partner with AWS business teams to support energy and water supply, infrastructure and services agreements and provide guidance on strategy, policy, and regulatory issues around the globe. Play an active role in AWS pursuit of cost-effective and renewable power. Responsible for structuring, drafting, and negotiating agreements, and counseling internal business partners on Utility-scale wind, solar, and battery storage power purchase agreements; Energy supply agreements and energy infrastructure agreements; Wholesale energy licensing and compliance; Energy incentives; Energy and water strategy more broadly. Work directly with the various business teams to provide day-to-day advice, resolve issues that arise in existing commercial relationships, handle pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries, and manage outside counsel for our current and new regions around the globe. Responsible for identifying opportunities for, and implementation of, process improvements. Interact with our Public Policy, Public Relations, Accounting, Finance, Economic Development, and Tax teams.
Qualifications: Law degree (J.D. or equivalent). Licensed to practice law in the region and/or the US with a qualification in good standing. 5+ years of legal experience, including 3+ years at a law firm. Preferred: A mix of law firm and in-house experience at an energy company or at a corporation with large energy needs. Experience in representing corporate customers in energy contract negotiations. Experience with renewable energy projects. Experience with FERC compliance, proceedings, and ISO/RTO matters. Experience with energy incentives and public policy. Ability to demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations. Ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams.
