AVP - Corporate Counsel Duties: Close involvement with senior business members on product development of complex insurance products including annuities, life insurance and preneed products and other securities. Draft, negotiate, and counsel the business on third party distribution arrangements including bank, broker-dealer, independent agent and advisory distribution. Collaborate with senior business leaders and provide solutions and legal risk management related to operational matters across Individual Markets. Draft and negotiate variable product filings with the SEC. Providing legal guidance and risk mitigation to business partners across Individual Markets including sales, marketing, operations and compliance. Build and maintain partnerships with internal stakeholders as well as contacts within the broader Legal & Compliance community across GAFG.
Qualifications: JD Degree and 8+ years of experience in the field of law, including financial services/insurance, previous in-house Legal experience required. Experience with the Investment Company Act of 1940, the Securities Act of 1933, FINRA Rules and State Insurance Law. Ability to make decisions, use independent judgment, establish priorities and work effectively on multiple initiatives concurrently. Ability to work with a geographically dispersed team. Advanced knowledge of life and annuity service, operations and regulatory requirements. Capacity to consider, process and filter large amounts of complex information quickly and identify appropriate actions in a fast paced environment. Strong communication skills to present complex matters to senior business leaders. Strong work ethic and high level of personal integrity and accountability.
