Associate General Counsel - Labor & Employment Responsibilities: Provide day-to-day advice and support to business leaders and Human Resources on a wide variety of labor and employment issues including, but not limited to, Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, NLRA, background checks, workers compensation, and other state and federal employment laws. Assist in responding to administrative charges, including conducting witness interviews, collecting and reviewing documents, and drafting position statements. Assist in employment litigation, including, obtaining and reviewing documents for written discovery. Respond to external requests for information, including subpoenas for employment records, personnel record requests, and administrative agency requests. Provide counsel on labor issues, such as interpretation of applicable CBAs and grievance responses, and provide legal support during contract negotiations. Build and support employee relations policies, procedures, and programs across, including implementation of conduct and culture initiatives. Other tasks as requested by the General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, and Senior Associate General Counsel, Labor and Employment.
Qualifications: A JD Degree from an accredited institution is required. Must be licensed to practice law in Illinois. 7+ years of employment law experience is required. Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws is required. Strong writing skills and experience drafting position statements or similar documents. Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including a timely and responsive communication style. Strong organizational and planning skills with excellent attention to detail and an ability to manage multiple time-sensitive projects and appropriately prioritize to adhere to strict deadlines. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and properly handle sensitive information. Ability to work independently as well as the ability to work well in a team environment. Comfortable, and excited by, working in a fast-pace high activity environment. Ability to effectively work with various departments and levels and manage multidisciplinary teams. Preferred Job Qualifications: Familiarity with labor laws and experience counseling on labor matters is strongly desired. Broad knowledge of healthcare law preferred.
