Associate Director, Global Labor & Employment The candidate will provide timely, practical, and business-oriented legal advice on a range of global employment and compliance issues, including recruitment and hiring, diversity and inclusion, performance management, corrective action, reorganizations, terminations, leave of absence and accommodations, discrimination and harassment, wage and hour, restrictive covenants, employment agreements, and employee relations matters. Partner closely with Employee Relations on internal investigations and the proactive identification and mitigation of legal and employee relations risks. Support employment law matters outside the U.S., including by engaging and coordinating advice and counsel with local external counsel as appropriate. Coordinate with Vertex functions globally, such as the Office of Business Integrity & Ethics, Human Resources, Legal, Communications, Security and Facilities, and Data, Technology & Engineering, as appropriate, to provide counsel on employment-related matters. Represent Vertex, working with and managing outside counsel as appropriate, with respect to employment-related disputes, including negotiation, mediation, and litigation. Support the development and implementation of HR policies and initiatives, including compliance, communications and change management strategies. Monitor global, federal, state, and local legal developments and advise on and support the development of solutions that enable compliance with same. Develop and present training programs to Human Resources on legislative developments and best practices to mitigate legal risk.

The candidate should have a JD from an ABA-accredited law school and be a member of a State Bar. Should have 5+ years employment law experience, including providing advice and counsel and managing employment litigation. Proficient in providing advice and counsel in the following areas: ADA, reasonable accommodations, FMLA and other types of leaves, employee terminations, reductions in force, wage and hour, performance management, workplace investigations and employee relations issues are preferred. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to provide clear, practical guidance that influences internal stakeholders. The global mindset with the ability to effectively and collaboratively partner with Human Resources, Legal, and business colleagues across the enterprise. Good judgment with the ability to quickly analyze complex situations and recommend simple, concise, and effective legal solutions. Proactive self-starter with strong performance management skills. Able to prioritize and work efficiently with limited oversight and direction in a dynamic, results-oriented environment. In-house employment counsel experience preferred.
