Product and Privacy Counsel Duties: Serve as one of the first points of contact for legal issues throughout the product development lifecycle and provide practical day-to-day and strategic advice (with a focus on privacy) to the engineering and product teams. Continue Privacy by Design efforts to create compliance efficiencies within the product, advising internal clients regarding legal issues related to our product, including compliance with the GDPR, e-Privacy Directive, CCPA, and other global privacy laws. Support the product and engineering teams on privacy and security-related legal matters and in evaluating the impact of privacy laws, regulatory guidance, enforcement actions, and policies. Work with cross-functional teams to build scalable processes to provide products that customers can trust. Support the readiness and release of products and features by identifying and driving the resolution of issues related to privacy, data security, marketing, competition, intellectual property, and other legal and regulatory areas. Develop and deliver training and communications relating to legal issues related to product development. Address a variety of issues of first impression and other special projects as needed. Qualifications: A Juris Doctor (JD) degree and admission to the California Bar or ability to be registered as in-house counsel in California. Should have 7+ years of legal experience, including 2 years practicing as privacy or product attorney within a software technology company. Experience counseling on the launch of products and advising on the legal and regulatory aspects of product development in the software industry. Knowledge of global privacy laws, regulations, and industry guidelines, and the ability to incorporate those principles into the product development process. Excellent drafting, written, and verbal communication skills and ability to adapt legal requirements in balanced, creative and pragmatic ways to facilitate clear and open communication at all levels of the organization. Strong communication skills and cooperative team player. Lead with empathy and understanding while embracing diverse points of view, to build meaningful relationships and trust with internal clients and leaders. Preferred Qualifications: Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/EU or CIPP/US). Experience in one or more of the areas in APIs and app marketplaces, data analytics, AI and machine learning. Prior experience with a fast-growing technology company. Familiarity using Notion.
